Can’t really tell in this picture, but there’s a pretty good dent in the oil pan. Although I doubt it’s big enough throw off the oil level readings.
Anyhoo. Actually did some work on it today, I know shocking. That said, it’s been a very reliable car, which is a nice change.
I changed the oil, air filter, and was gonna do the brake and clutch fluid, but the bleeder screws on this thing have this giant flare on the end, so I couldn’t fit my tubing over them and was too lazy to go to the store and buy bigger tubing.
Then I decided I’d just suck the fluid out of the reservoirs and replace that. But I decided against it, because they’re so tiny I’m scared I’ll accidentally suck too much out and get air into the master cylinders, which is a mistake I’ll never make again lol.
And I also checked the timing belt, and it’s fine. When I bought it, the guy said he’d recently had the water pump done, but when I asked him about the timing belt, he said he didn’t know or have the receipt anymore. Which may sound suspicious
, but for a car like this, I don’t really think so.
I forgot to take a picture of it, but it’s brand spanking new, so I’m guessing they did it along with the water pump.
So yeah, did some things, but not as many things as I would’ve liked to. That said, this is a nice little luxury hatchback. It does everything you need it too, but it’s a big enough of a POS you don’t care if a shopping cart rolls into it, or you get brake fluid on the paint. Plus it’s been very reliable so far and parts for it are cheap and easy to replace.
It’s a good boi Oppo.

The main concern with a bottom-of-pan dent like that is that it can push the bottom of the pan into the pickup screen, which can do a couple things - either starve the pickup for oil (since the pan is blocking part of it) or break the pickup tube, causing air to get pulled into the pump and thus inadequate lubrication.
That said, you’d know by now if these things were happening, since it would have blown up by now, so it should be fine
. Sounds like a good daily/beater!

T hat is weird - how’d they do that? Looks like they dropped the whole car on something...

It could have been some debris kicked up from the road. Or they could have done like my old roommate did to my truck - go over a too-tall curb that had a big hole on the other side. Butthead smashed the oil pan then didn’t even offer to fix it.

some people think the oil pan is the best place to put the jack. Sheet metal can support a car right?!

Thankfully I don’t think that’s what happened, since that probably wouldn’t punched right through it.

Yeah probably, it’s pretty low. I had to jack it up, on my old Honda’s I could change the oil without even lifting the car.
Guess they left a toolbox underneath
or something when they set it down.

One night driving home in my E30 I hit some kind of debris on the road that I didn’t even see. It was raining pretty hard on a Texas access road with very little lighting. 30 year old headlights don’t do a very adequate job of fully lighting the road either. Whatever I hit bounced underneath the car, I didn’t know where it hit but it was very loud inside the cabin. Pulled into a gas station soon after to see if I damaged anything and sure enough fuel was hemmoraging from the tank. That was a long night.
